The Cultural Center of the Philippines is inviting everyone to join Franciscosplay – a contest where participants dress up as characters from Francisco Baltazar’s masterpiece Florante at Laura.

Contestants need to show up and be in character during the Franciscosplay on April 2, 2017, the 229th birthday of Balagtas. The program will commence from 1:30-4:00 p.m. at the CCP Little Theater. It is free and open to the public.

Judges will score the participants on the following criteria:

1. Characterization – how well the contestants act or embody the characters they are playing.
2. Costume Design – the over-all design of the costume the players are wearing.
3. Audience Impact – the contestants positive effect on the audience.
4. Delivery – how well the contestants introduce their character to the audience.

Winners will receive cash prize (P5,000, P3,000 and P2,000) and gift certificates from Microtel Puerto Princesa and Sto. Tomas, Batangas.  Members of the audience are encouraged to be in costume. A special prize awaits for the one who comes in the most creative Franciscosplay attire.

The Franciscosplay aims to inspire the participation of everyone in culture and arts affairs and the representation of characters from Filipino literature in popular and fun manner.

Franciscosplay is one of the highlights of the Performatura 2017 – a performance literature festival organized by the CCP which celebrates the intersection of literature and performance, and artist and audience. The Performatura 2017 is open to the public and will be held in the CCP’s various venues and Liwasang Balagtas, Pandacan, Manila on March 31, April 1, and April 2.
